Biography
John Quarenghi
John Quarenghi is an experienced and well-respected trial attorney who has presented hundreds of cases to a grand jury or preliminary hearing throughout his many years in the profession.
During his time at the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (1995-2014) he worked tirelessly, trying more than 80 jury trials as a lead attorney. With strong communication and presentation skills, Quarenghi can create persuasive, logical and objective arguments during trial, often simplifying and clarifying complex cases. Offering logical, objective and persuasive written and oral arguments, Quarenghi is a strong researcher, gathering the relevant legal concepts and statutes to prepare thorough and well-structured legal memorandums and motions.
Known as a team player, throughout his career Quarenghi has built a reputation as a knowledgeable and generous mentor to other attorneys, and as such, he was promoted to supervisor at the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in 2013. In this role, Quarenghi was responsible for supervising seven other felony attorneys, as well as continuing with his own cases. In addition to his role as supervisor, Quarenghi has also given several seminars and classes on child abuse, child deaths, drugs and weapons, homicides, sexual abuse, DWI, and the presentation of evidence.
An Economics graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Quarenghi studied Law at the Southern Illinois University Law School, graduating in 1990. Quarenghi took his first position as an attorney at the law firm of Bernard and Davidson in Granite City, Illinois in 1990, before taking the role of Assistant State’s Attorney at the St. Clair County, Illinois, State’s Attorney’s Office.
Outside the legal profession, John Quarenghi has several interests and pastimes, including ice hockey and competitive tennis. Quarenghi has played competitive tennis since the age of 12 – he still competes on occasion – and his passion for the game continued as a member of the varsity tennis team during his time at the University of Illinois. He regularly plays ice hockey too, which has enjoyed for more than 30 years.
Quarenghi is also a keen traveler and explorer. He has visited many countries around the world, including Peru and Iceland, as well as many parts of Africa and Europe. Nature photography and reading are two further interests, and Quarenghi is often able to combine his love of travel with his interest in photography.
